A Unique Art Show

A quick visit to the Library, and a great surprise--an art show to visit. This art show is in the courtyard and are done by the students of Lakeview Academy. Pictures of the area, thoughts by the students, and their ideas in lots of color--and shoes! Each art piece has a pair of shoes (my son's favorite were the spray painted leopard slippers) each painted very brightly with quotes on each piece. It is quite fun to see and interesting to read. If you have a chance, check it out!!

Carnegie lives on...

Thanks to Andrew Carnegie, Petoskey had a beautiful library for many years. His method was to build and equip, but only on condition that the local authority matched that by providing a site and operating maintenance. For many years, this was Petoskey's Public Library, but a new one was build in 2004, right across the street. This building is still used by the library for meetings, lessons, and programs. A great place to visit.

I went to the Library last night and there in the lobby was this quilt. I know that the library hangs quilts here often, but this one really caught my eye. I looked for the artist's name or some information about it, but didn't see anything, so you'll have to be in the dark as I am right now! For now, enjoy the beauty and intricacy of the workmanship of this quilt, and try not to think how dizzying it would have been to work on it!

A Compass to Guide Us

This was a place we spent quite a bit of time this summer, the library. This is the entrance that is a really beautiful rotunda and has a gorgeous compass rose in the center. My daughter loves to read, almost as much as I do, and we were there at least once a week, sometimes more during the summer. I'm so proud of her. She was in the Summer Reading Program and came in first for reading 271 books! And she was gone for 2 weeks this summer! She worked really hard and learned a lot about new places and things in which she was interested. So, visit the library and you might meet us there!

Enter into the Labyrinth!!

Just a fun photo of our favorite activities at the library. We've been to the library a LOT this summer. My daughter is in their reading program and so far this summer she has read 248 books. (that's all) :) The first floor of the wing in the picture is the Children's section, where we spend a lot of our time. We also spend a lot of time at the labyrinth. They have just added a turtle sculpture here as well that they love to play on. A trip to the library is always a great time!!

Just a piece of the sky for you!

This is one of my favorite places in Petoskey--The Library. When they moved across the street in 2004, this cupola was put on the new addition to the building they currently occupy. It is really pretty outside, and beautiful inside. Enjoy the glorious view of the sky!

A-Maze-ing!

In the library courtyard, there is a lovely little maze that is made of bricks in a pattern. Every time we come to the library (when there isn't snow covering the ground) we have to do the maze. It is fun to race to get the middle and see who can win! And then, of course, there is a race to get out as well. It is very nicely put together and lots of fun to do!

The Library Staircase

The staircase in the library is such an interesting place to me. I've never lived where the library had more than one floor before, so this is really cool to me! If you couldn't guess, we spend quite a bit of time at the library, and it is nice to have plenty of room to move around and read. In fact, my daughter can't wait to get her driver's license because the first place she wants to drive by herself is the library!

Welcome to the Library

They just moved the library about 5 years ago from an older building across the street. This is the new wing that was built. The new library is very nice and LARGE with 3 stories of space for books. The Children's section is where we spend most of our time and my kids love it. They love the computers and it is easy for them to find books. There is also a brick maze in the back that they have to do every time it is nice outside, but that's a picture for another time...Hope you enjoy your day and visit your local library!
