What is Normal?

I love this building downtown, with the Normal Business College still on the building from sometime in the late 1800's or early 1900's. I don't know much about the college, just that it was a "Graves school". I'll have to find out more just to satisfy my curiosity. I just love that they have preserved the history of this building.

That's so interesting. I believe the "Normal Schools" were all teacher's colleges (where one learned to be a teacher). Northern Illinois University, in my hometown of DeKalb, was once a Normal School. (If it hadn't been, I probably wouldn't know this stuff!)

Really nice shot.

No, this was not a college. No collegiate level courses were taught formally in Petoskey until Bay View offered summer Chataugua style courses and then the community college in '59
