The Sun Also Rises, but not tonight!

Here in Petoskey, the sun sets right over Little Traverse Bay and because of that, this area is known as "The Land of the Million Dollar Sunsets". I think this one comes close! It was a beautiful night and a great sunset. I had just gone on the Downtown Petoskey Gallery Walk featuring 13 galleries downtown and we were all gathered in the courtyard at the Perry Hotel (shown in an earlier post) as the sun went down. Of course, the farther the sun set, the cooler it got, but thankfully, I had a sweater on! The Gallery Walk was very nice and I had a great time visiting some of the galleries that I don't usually venture into. The galleries all donate a prize as well, so after the walk, everyone meets and listens for their ticket number so they can take an amazing piece of artwork home. Unfortunately, I didn't win anything this year, but there is always next year!

A Lovely Piece of History
The Perry Hotel is a lovely piece of Petoskey history. It is a historic hotel that overlooks Little Traverse Bay and is beautifully preserved inside and out. There are 3 restaurants here at the Perry, one a pub in the basement with live music on the weekends, another a very nice main floor restaurant that overlooks the bay, and the third is seasonal, an outdoor cafe that overlooks the bay and is set in a lovely garden. The owner, (whom we met at another of his properties in the area when he took care of our hot chocolate cups for us), is very nice and insists that things be taken care of well. I always appreciate a trip to the Perry for dinner! The hotel has been here for over 100 years and has had its ups and downs, but it is a landmark on the bay, and we're glad it's part of Petoskey.
