When Ya Gotta Go..

..I would suggest that it not be here!! (The door is glassed over and you can't get in anymore. Whew!) It is funny to think that outhouses used to be a normal part of any community, or any home for that matter, but this is right in the middle of town on Pennsylvania Park's northern side. I'm just really thankful to be living in a century with indoor plumbing and electricity, let me tell you. Can you imagine how cold that would be in the middle of winter??? Yikes!

The FlatIron Building

The Flatiron building downtown houses the Flatiron Deli as well as other stores. It is right next to Pennsylvania Park, and some of the stores open out onto the park as well as Howard Street.
The park is a nice place to take your lunch in the Spring and Summer to enjoy the sunshine. Enjoy the sun today! (Dare I say it -- Spring has come to Petoskey! It might actually snow again, but things are starting to look and feel like Spring! Woohoo!!)

I just love a great color!

I think that the colors of the buildings say a lot about people. They seem more imaginative and fun to go to, so that is why I'm highlighting them today! Check these two stores out downtown just off Pennsylvania Park!

Concerts in the Park

Downtown, every Tuesday and Friday, there are concerts in Pennsylvania Park. They have interesting and varying offerings every concert season. This is the 27th annual concert season that they've put together and there are some great shows scheduled! I personally want to go and hear "Carmen" next week!

There are people who come every week to listen, but I often forget we have this great opportunity to hear great music. There are no rain dates; if it's raining, they meet in the Presbyterian church 2 blocks north of the park. Join us if you can!
Here's a link to the concert season listings:

Art in the Park

Today was Art in the Park in Petoskey. It is an annual event held rain or shine. Downtown Pennsylvania Park is covered with booths of different artists and so many kinds of art! Jewelry, paintings, glassworks, woodworks, ceramics, and photography are only a few of the different types of art represented here. But one of my favorites is Sue Bleyaert of Creative Canvas. She makes floorcloths of canvas, hand paints them, and finishes them so that they are both decorative and practical. I have one of her designs that she custom-made for me over 10 years ago and it is wonderful! I have mine as a cover for my dining room table so it gets a lot of use and is beautiful. This new design below is my favorite in her booth this year. Sue has been featured in books about floorcloths and she has a website: www.creativecanvas.net. Be sure to check it out!! She makes floorcloths and tablecovers as well as coasters and placemats. I can highly recommend her products!

Gazebo in the Park

Downtown Petoskey has beautiful Pennsylvania Park right in the middle of town that is used for many things, including: people watching, squirrel chasing, picnicking, ice cream cone eating, and listening to the music that is played live every week during the summer. The park was founded by the Garden Club in the middle of the last century, saving it from becoming a parking lot. Thanks, Garden Club!!

This is also the location of "Art in the Park" in the middle of July every year. A juried art fair that has local and national artists that do beautiful work.

It is a lovely park and one we visit frequently as we walk through downtown.
